1) What is Bangladesh Medical Students’ Society (BMSS)?

The Bangladesh Medical Students’ Society (BMSS) is a pioneering non-governmental organization representing medical students across Bangladesh. With a robust network of 50 local committees and 20,000 members, BMSS is dedicated to empowering future healthcare leaders through education, advocacy and global collaboration. As a full member of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA),which was founded in May 1951, BMSS provides its members with opportunities for professional development, cultural exchange, research and active participation in global health initiatives. Our mission is to inspire and equip medical students to make a positive impact on healthcare locally and globally. In year 2010 we became candidate members of International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) in 59th IFMSA March Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. BMSS is the only national member organization (NMO) of IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students’ Association) in Bangladesh and we have to pay 551 Dollars yearly to maintain that status. In year 2013 we got full membership of IFMSA in 62nd IFMSA March Meeting in Washington DC, USA.

2) So what is International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA)?

The International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA), founded in 1951, is one of the world’s oldest and largest student-run organisations. It represents, connects and engages every day with an inspiring and engaging network of 1.3 million medical students from 139 NMOs in 130 countries around the globe. 3) What is our structure?

To be able to work together, we have an organizational structure, which facilitates the flow of ideas and enables the development of activities. All activities of the BMSS are linked to one of its six standing committees, which are:

1.Standing Committee on Medical Education (SCOME)                                                                                                                                                                                                      2.Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE)
3.Standing Committee on Research Exchange (SCORE)
4.Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH)
5.Standing Committee on Sexual & Reproductive Health including HIV/AIDS (SCORA)
6.Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace (SCORP)

In addition we have various other training programs, global health advocacy meets, professional exchange and
research exchanges to medical schools abroad, research projects, observerships and internships at WHO, United Nations (UN), World
Medical Association (WMA) and various international meets such as General Assemblies, Regional
Meets and UN, World Health Assemblies (WHA) of the WHO.

4) How can I join BMSS?

1. Fill out the membership form
2. Go to bKash ‘Send Money’ option
3. Use the number 01714272022 (personal) and pay 300Tk in this number
4. Copy the TrxID and paste it in the required part of the membership form.
5. Submit the form.

5) I want to get involved with BMSS, how do I go about it?

To join the BMSS and connect with a vibrant community of future healthcare leaders please check this link if your medical college has a Local Committee (LC) or not. If your college has an LC, get involved by attending meetings and participating in events. If not, the Vice President for Internal Affairs can guide you on establishing one.
