Bangladesh Medical College Student’s Society has achieved pride this year to arrange Sub-Regional Training in Bangladesh on 9th-12th March 2022 at Ananda Park & Resort, Gazipur, Bangladesh. For participants, the event was an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that will help them succeed in both their personal and professional lives.
Sub-regional training is an official IFMSA meeting with a capacity-building approach aimed to deliver several training sessions and workshops within a particular region. Capacity building is not only the backbone of IFMSA but also will help us in our personal and professional development. SRT held two training sessions this year- TNT & IPAS.
In the TNT session, we got four respected trainers. They are- Dr. Sajib Zaman, Dr. Irtiza Haque Osmani, Dr. Tahsin Jawad and Kazi Saminur Rahman. The trainers assisted us by taking different sessions, engaging in groups, establishing group dynamics, teaching us how to tackle different types of conflicts, time management, initiating leadership qualities in an individual, and so on. In addition, there was an opportunity for an individual to speak to the trainers about their problems and get solutions from them. Participants were allowed to show their skills. It was graduation day, and everyone participated so spontaneously. In TNT, the participants discovered them in a new way. This session made them confident and enthusiastic as well.
The IPAS Training Session focused on the controversial issue of abortion. The respected trainers were Dr. Myesha Maliha Binte Mamun & Dr. Lisanul Hasan. In our country, abortion is illegal while it is allowed under certain circumstances. The participants gained a greater understanding of abortion, its pros and cons, and rules for abortion in particular areas. On their own, they participated in friendly debates and discussions, group activities, opinion panels, and drama segments where they presented the issue effectively and used empathetic visualization skills. Though there is no conclusion about this, as different people have different lifestyles and choices, the participants were well informed wholly about this controversial topic.
The skilful trainers did not let the session go boring. At first, through the ice-breaking session, the attendees got a chance to know one another. Ground rules were made and were liable to funny punishment for those who broke the rules. There were energizers which helped us to gain energy again to concentrate on the sessions. Four days were enough for the participants to make team dynamics, achieve knowledge and skills, positively discover themselves and respect other people’s opinions. Cultural segments filled the closing ceremony.
Participating in the SRT will help the participants advocate for the youth and build their capacities to address different issues relevant to NMO’s national priorities. Unlike a typical training session, SRT is an emotional experience for the participants. The bonding that has taken place here and the events that have been experienced, will serve as a treasured memory for the participants for a lifetime. By discovering themselves, their abilities, and accomplishments, they are able to create positive impacts on a family, society, nation, and in-country.
