Bangladesh Medical Students’ Society (BMSS) demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship by actively participating in the ‘Clean Air and Renewable Energy for Bangladesh 2023’ workshops organized by The Earth Society, in collaboration with the Institute of Energy, University of Dhaka. This transformative training program, spanning four cohorts in June, July, August, and October, engaged at least 20 medical students in each session, fostering a deep understanding of the critical intersections between clean energy, climate change, and public health.

Throughout the workshops, participants gained practical knowledge of Renewable Energy Business Opportunities, Clean Energy Technologies, Air Quality Measurements, Environmental Law, Advocacy Strategies, and Funding Models. Esteemed speakers and experts, including Mahfuz Mishu, Dr Nasif Shams, Hasan Mehedi, and Ms Rumana Ali, MP, shared invaluable insights, empowering medical students to play a vital role in addressing climate-related challenges.

The outcomes of these workshops extend beyond theoretical understanding, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge needed to advocate for sustainable policies and practices. The comprehensive training not only broadened their perspectives on environmental issues but also connected them to a network of professionals and organizations committed to combatting air pollution and promoting renewable energy solutions.

BMSS, through its representation in all four cohorts, stands poised to play a pivotal role in climate change mitigation. The medical students, armed with insights gained from the workshops, are well-positioned to raise awareness, engage communities, and contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable policies. Their role extends beyond healthcare, as they emerge as advocates for clean energy, catalysts for change, and ambassadors for a greener and healthier Bangladesh.
