On October 19th, Bangladesh Medical Students’ Society, in collaboration with “The Earth Society” and “The Climate Parliament,” successfully organized “Eco Harmony: Healing Our Community And Nurturing Our Earth” with Sheikh Hasina Medical College, Jamalpur Local Committee. The offline field activities took place at Sheikh Hasina Medical College and the 250-bedded General Hospital in Jamalpur.

The overarching goal of the event was to foster an environment where human activities harmonize with the natural rhythms of the Earth, ensuring the well-being of all inhabitants. Medical students actively participated in various initiatives at 250 bedded General Hospital, Jamalpur and Sheikh Hasina Medical College, Jamalpur campus.

These initiatives encompassed:

Tree plantation: Where honourable principal of Sheikh Hasina Medical College Jamalpur along with respected teachers and medical students planted various trees in the college campus and in the students’ dormitory.

Campus cleaning program: During the event around 50 medical students cleaned the campus ground advocating the importance of clean environment in maintaining a good healthy life.

Establishment of colored dustbins aligned with the National Waste Management policy, and the distribution of leaflets addressing environmental pollution.

To gauge community perspectives, a survey was conducted through a questionnaire focused on ideas and steps to combat pollution. Noteworthy was the involvement of respected Principal Sir and 10 teachers from the pediatric, medicine, and community medicine departments. Their participation underscores the collaborative commitment to environmental stewardship and the overall success of the “Eco Harmony: Healing Our Community and Nurturing Our Earth” event in Jamalpur.
