NGA 23: Celebrating Achievements and Charting the Path Forward
In the suburbs of Dhaka, at the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), the Bangladesh Medical Students’ Society (BMSS) hosted the much-anticipated National General Assembly 23 (NGA 23) on the 5th of May, 2023. This grand event, held at the conclusion of each term, serves as a platform for reflection, planning, and recognition of the outstanding efforts and accomplishments of the BMSS community throughout the year.
Unveiling the Essence of NGA:
The National General Assembly, or NGA, encapsulates the spirit of unity and collaboration within BMSS. As the term’s culmination, it plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s future endeavors. The event comprises various sessions that spotlight achievements, provide insights into the organization’s progress, and facilitate discussions on future strategies.
A Glimpse into NGA 23:
NGA 23 was marked by a day-long series of engaging activities, bringing together hundreds of participants ranging from local committee members to the executive board. The event was inaugurated by the charismatic President of BMSS for the term 2022-23, Dr. Myesha Maliha Prema, and the esteemed special guest, Mr. Abdun Noor Tushar.
Key Highlights
Exchange Booklet Release
The SCORE team unveiled the Exchange Booklet, a comprehensive guide providing information about Bangladesh and local committees within BMSS. Aimed at those interested in exchanges, the booklet serves as a bridge between cultures and medical practices.
BMSS Buzz Launch
An eagerly awaited annual tradition, the BMSS Buzz, a vibrant magazine, was released during NGA 23. Featuring thought-provoking write-ups on the intersection of technology, particularly artificial intelligence, and healthcare, the magazine also included insightful remarks from executive board members.
Interactive Sessions:
Following a delectable lunch break, participants delved into seven enlightening sessions. Ranging from the Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV and AIDS (SCORA), Exchanges, Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace (SCORP), Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH), Standing Committee on Medical Education (SCOME), NMO Management all the way to the President’s Session, the sessions motivated and empowered attendees, paving the way for the next term.
Activity Fairs:
A hallmark of NGA, the activity fairs for both Standing Committees (SC) and Local Committees (LC) allowed representatives to showcase their outstanding work throughout the term. These presentations served as a testament to the dedication and innovation within the BMSS community.
Closing Ceremony:
NGA 23 concluded on a high note with a closing ceremony that featured remarks from one of the founders of BMSS, Dr. Muhtamim Chowdhury Zubin. The ceremony also included a prize-giving segment, recognizing outstanding achievements in the LC Exchange Fair, LC Activity Fair, and SC Activity Fair.
