Teal and White, Fight for Light

BMSS aimed to change one life and establish a road towards a cervical cancer free world through the event ‘Teal and White, Fight for Light’. The vaccination and donation campaign of ‘Teal and White, Fight for Light’ took place on 14 June 2021 at the Suchona Health Care Centre, Rayerbazar, Dhaka.
As January is marked as the Cervical Cancer Awareness Month by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the Local Committees of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Medical College for Women and Hospital with the collaboration of ‘Cancer Awareness Foundation of Bangladesh’ (CAF BD) organized this grand fundraising campaign under the Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV and AIDS (SCORA).
Khadija Akter Ripa, a 10 year old underprivileged girl from Rayerbazar successfully received the first dose of The Gradacil vaccine. Representatives of BMSS and CAF BD planned this very first field event in the Pandemic maintaining all health safety protocols.
Upon arriving at the venue, everyone received a free mask from CAF BD. Everyone wore Teal coloured ribbon to showcase their commitment towards fighting cervical cancer. After the vaccination, the little girl studying in class 4 was gifted with a sanitary pad and flower as a token of love from BMSS. BMSS team handed over the appreciation letter to CAF BD at the end of the event. BMSS and CAF BD is thankful for this very successful collaboration.
A total of 14000 taka was collected through the 10-day long online campaign from 15-25 Jan 2021. 10400 taka was utilized to vaccinate the underprivileged girl. 3600 taka was donated to the Project Obolombon, a unique initiative my CAF BD to rehabilitate cancer patients. The expected date to receive the 2nd and final dose of Gradacil vaccine is 11 December 2021
